Snowstar's History

Snowstar's History

Snowstar was the vision of entrepreneur Allen Rexroth in 1980 after his son Thomas Rexroth became an avid skier. To add experience to their combined vision, they invited several of those involved in the Sundown Ski area to join them. Starting with one quad chairlift and four runs, Snowstar became a reality in 1981.
Most of the growth and expansion came under the capable leadership of Ed Meyer. We now have two restaurants, Rex's Lounge, extensive snowmaking, 15 runs, four chairlifts, a beginner hill with magic carpet, one rope tow, a large well-managed terrain park and a tubing hill.
In 2018, Snowstar started year round activities. We are now a venue for weddings, receptions, corporate meetings, birthday parties and more! Since February 2019 visitors to Snowstar can experience a canopy tour of our slope and beautiful scenery on our SkyFlyer zip line. It features four lines, with the longest being 1,300 feet making it one of the longest zip lines in the Midwest!
